The history of the joinery

Bücker Joinery proudly looks back on 130 years of company history and is now in its fourth generation. What began as a traditional craft business specialising in wooden shoes and joinery has evolved into a company with extensive expertise in furniture construction, gained through decades of experience and continuous development.

This knowledge, combined with state-of-the-art production and a highly skilled team, has enabled Bücker Joinery to establish itself as a leading name in high-quality furniture craftsmanship on the German market.

Take a moment to explore the rich history of Bücker Joinery.

1884

Bücker Joinery was founded in 1884 by Anton Bücker. The first production facility was located in the old Spieker on the Schoppmeyer farm on Natruper Straße in Hagen a.T.W., covering just 35m². Production initially focused on wooden shoes, plank doors, staircases, and handcrafted bedroom furniture.

1899 - 1918

Heinrich Bücker, born on 17 April 1899, completed a three-year carpentry apprenticeship with his father, Anton Bücker, at the age of 14. After gaining five years of professional experience, he successfully passed his master carpentry examination at the Osnabrück Chamber of Crafts.

1925

After 41 years of company history, the opportunity arose to expand the joinery. In 1925, the first plans were drawn up for the Bücker Joinery on Neuer Kamp in Hagen. To save costs and space, the joinery also served as the Bücker family’s home.

1926

It was time for further change, and in 1926, Heinrich Bücker took over the joinery from his father at the newly built site.

At the time, the company specialised primarily in staircases, windows, and doors. However, despite this specialisation, it was not uncommon for the business to be commissioned to furnish entire houses, including floors, doors, staircases, and furniture.

1930 - 1947

Antonius Bücker was born in Hagen a.T.W. on 12 August 1930. Like his father Heinrich before him, he began his apprenticeship in the family business at the age of 14, successfully completing it in 1947.

During the post-war period, after passing his master craftsman’s examination, he continued to specialise in windows and doors, further refining the company’s expertise in this field.

1960

At the age of 30, Antonius Bücker took over the company from Heinrich Bücker in 1960. Heinrich continued to support his son in the business until the age of 90, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to the craft.

Heinrich Bücker passed away in Hagen a.T.W. in 2001 at the remarkable age of 101.

1960

Manfred Bücker was born in Hagen a.T.W. in 1960. From an early age, the future Managing Director was deeply involved in the family business, regularly assisting and gaining hands-on experience.

1960-1990

At the age of 18, Manfred Bücker began his apprenticeship in the family business, which he successfully completed. He then pursued further qualifications, becoming a master carpenter and a business economist.

Between 1960 and 1990, Antonius Bücker successfully expanded the joinery’s reach beyond Hagen a.T.W. to the district and city of Osnabrück. During this time, a rear extension to the workshop allowed for further structural expansion, supporting the company’s continued growth.

1990

In 1990, at the age of 30, Manfred Bücker took over the company, now in its fourth generation. Over time, the company’s specialisation in windows and staircases gradually shifted towards furniture construction, marking a new era of craftsmanship and innovation.

2001

Following the demolition of Heinrich Bücker’s former home, the joinery was able to expand by approximately 200 m² at the front. This extension provided new office and production space, allowing for improved coordination between production and work preparation.

2003

The new office and production area was completed in 2003. At the same time, the company further refined its focus on high-quality furniture construction, sliding doors, and shopfitting, while the production of windows and staircases was largely phased out.

2003

The new production area on the ground floor provided space for modern machinery, including a new CNC machine. Meanwhile, the newly built offices on the upper floor created additional room for planning and organisation, further enhancing efficiency and workflow.

2013

The growing demand for innovative furniture soon made further expansion necessary, which was no longer feasible at the Neuer Kamp site. As a result, in 2013, the offices and production facility were relocated to the industrial estate on Höhenweg in Hagen a.T.W., providing the space needed for continued growth and development.

2013

The new production and office space, including the showroom, spans approximately 3,000 m². The spacious new production hall accommodates state-of-the-art machinery and expanded logistics, enabling us to further broaden our range of services and capabilities.

2020

Since August 2020, Alexander Bücker had been supporting the company in its fifth generation, focusing on work preparation and sales.

“We still had so many plans together – and even though you are no longer with us, we will continue to run our family business in your spirit.”

2020

Mittelbach Design GmbH was acquired in December 2020, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion. Here, special rail technology for pharmacies and the industrial drugstore market was further developed, laying the foundation for the Bücker Group.

2024

The Bücker Group has acquired the innovative BELITEC® cabinet bed system from Hartmann asytec GmbH & Co. KG in Löhne, further expanding its product portfolio beyond the rail systems of Mittelbach Design.
